New 2018 Seminar Dates
If the dates scheduled below do not work with your schedule, now you can contact us directly and request a date that suits you and we will try to arrange a seminar in that time period.
I am also able to travel to other locations for private, on-site instruction. So if you know of a few people who would be interested in taking a class in their area (and there is a studio available to hold the class) get in touch with me.
ALSO NOTE: We are teaching primarily small sessions (up to 4 students). Our seminars offer professional instruction and a well planned curriculum. All seminars are intensive, hands-on learning sessions that follow the lecture - demonstration - participation model for students' maximum retention of information.
For more information on each class, click the linked class title at the top of each class description. For general seminar information, click the SEMINARS link on the left nav bar. |

Photo
Resist Glass Etching Techniques
This is where you start learning about glass etching - if you are interested primarily in etching awards, corporate and personal gifts!
In this 3 day class, you will learn everything
about how to make and use all types of Photo Resists. Learn how
to create your own photo resists, use pre-imaged resists, or combine
with other resist techniques. Learn how to create etched designs
of almost any complexity, any number of times, with no hand cutting
or peeling of resist. The primary technique shown in this class
is surface etching, with an introduction into carving and shading.
This is the
only class available anywhere that will teach you in-depth
techniques for using all the newest types of photo resist -
self adhesive, and dry process type (RapidMask). Techniques
include how to personalize beautiful glass and crystal pieces for
corporate or indivudual gifts and how to use photo resist in multi-stage
carving and shading techniques. Students will create several
projects on glass, stone and ceramics. Computer programs applicable
to creating photo resists will be presented and use of a computer
to prepare the artwork will be demonstrated. Color filling etched
glass and stone will be introduced. |

Carving Techniques Level I
Abrasive carving of glass is a very time intensive technique and students cannot learn well unless they have lots of blasting time during class. This seminar features restricted enrollment, so everyone will have much more time to blast. Students will have a choice of projects that include advanced techniques and they will also have time to really practice those techniques!
- Maximum 4 students
- Learn to go beyond techniques you originally learned by violating the normal rules of glass carving, for the right reasons
- Learn to control the shape of the carving by understanding the shape of the "carving tool"
- Learn how to control the contour of your carved surface to realistically carve difficult subjects like hands and faces
- Learn how and when to employ edge carving of your glass for striking effects
- Learn how to easily create special textures

Shading Techniques Level I
Multi-stage shading is one of the 3 major techniques of abrasive etching on glass. Glass etchers generally agree that it is the most difficult technique to learn, because it is very unforgiving of mistakes. This is the first class we have ever presented that is dedicated exclusively to the beautiful technique of multi-stage shading. We have a taste of this technique in our 4 day Professional seminar, but this is 4 days of nothing but shading, offered by popular demand!
Shading takes longer to learn than the other techniques, but it is faster to etch a shaded project than one with carving. So, we are able to complete more projects, more elaborate projects and larger projects than in other classes!

How to Use RapidMask
We are still getting plenty of questions in regards to the use of the two
different RapidMask products, HD and HT, so I decided to put on a special two day workshop that explains and demonstrates the uses of the two different products. Come and learn how to create the right art work for this unique non washout photo resist film, for black-and-white standard art work as well as half-tone photographic images. You’ll be learning to use the
appropriate computer programs to generate usable artwork and blast with the films. Beginners welcome.
