Business
and Legal Forms for Crafts
by Tad Crawford, 176 pp., CD rom included
This valuable
book starts out with a "Success Kit" of instructions for
how to use the whole book.If you don't know what a contract is,
or the difference between verbal and written contracts, or what
an 'indemnify and hold harmless' clause means, or what 'liquidated
damages' are, this section explains everything. The forms section
contains 23 legal forms along with instructions for their use and
information on how you might want to modify them. Each form comes
with "negotiation points", which are items in the contract
that can be negotiated to your best advantage, if you just know
what they are.For example, if you sell a high priced item on an
installment payment plan for the customer, did you know to include
wording that reserves you a 'security interest' in the item sold
(page 13)? If you don't, the customer can re-sell the item without
telling you or paying you when he receives the money.
The forms include
a commission contract, a consignment contract, a contract to create
a limited edition, contract of sale, invoice, distribution contract
(Don't even know what a distribution contract is? Well, you should!),
licensing contract, trademark application, copyright application
and more. It is a real education just reading the instructions to
fill out the forms! Even if you never use one of these forms, you
will be able to discuss legal issues with your attorney from a much
more knowledgeable point of view.
Any of these
23 forms could be worth 10 times the purchase price of the book
if obtained from an attorney. Just having a legal secretary type
out one of the forms would cost more than the price of the book.
Here, you not only have tear out forms, you also have the forms
on a CD rom, so you can easily fill them out of modify them
according to your own situation.Of course, you should always consult
an attorney for legal advice before finalizing a form, but you can
save lots of money with this book!
